Landscape Dripline Watering Guide

How much should I water my plants per week with the Landscape Dripline System?

Use the chart and notes below as a simple starting point. Adjust based on plant size, pot type, climate, soil moisture, and weather conditions.

Plant Recommended Watering Time
Plant Type / Size Cool Climate Warm / Humid Climate Hot / Arid Climate
Small Pots 10 min / week 15 min / week 30 min / week
Large Pots 15 min / week 30 min / week 45 min / week
Small Shrub (3 ft.) 15 min / week 30 min / week 1 hour / week
Large Shrub (6 ft.) 45 min / week 1.5 hours / week 2 hours / week
Small Trees (10 ft.) 3 hours / week 5.5 hours / week 8 hours / week
Large Trees (20 ft.) 11 hours / week 22 hours / week 32 hours / week

Recommended watering times are starting estimates. Adjust based on weather, soil moisture, and plant response.

When to Water Daily

  • Plants in terracotta or unglazed ceramic pots dry out faster because the material absorbs moisture.
  • Small pots dry out faster because they hold less soil.
  • Very hot weather, especially 90°F+, or windy conditions cause faster evaporation.
  • Plants in active growing seasons need more water.

When to Water Less

  • Plastic, glazed ceramic, or metal pots retain moisture longer.
  • Small plants placed in oversized pots can stay wet too long.
  • Cool, cloudy, or humid weather may mean watering is only needed every 2–3 days.

Additional Note

If runoff occurs, split watering into 2–3 shorter cycles. After a few days, check the soil near the ½” drip tubing. If the soil is too wet, reduce watering time. If it’s too dry, increase watering time.

Pro Tip:

If customers find they need to water daily, switching to 2 GPH emitters or a drip stake kit can reduce watering time by 40–50% while still watering the roots effectively.

Future Chart Option

This layout can support an additional chart for 2 GPH emitters and 4 GPH emitters when updated calculations are available.
